Mission Opportunities
Since its founding in 1956, St. John’s has focused on serving God by serving others and we continue that tradition today. Being in mission takes many forms from hands-on projects at church and at home to monetary donations to going out into the mission field to work directly with those in need. If you have a heart for mission, then St. John’s has a way for you to be the hands and feet of Jesus, no matter your age or ability.
Rising Hope United Methodist Church is a community church that ministers to the spiritual and physical needs of the most at-risk people on the Route 1 corridor of Alexandria, Virginia.
How we help:
Lynbrook Elementary School is a public school of over 600 students located just down the street. We are excited about our partnership with the students and staff there and we are committed to helping these wonderful children to thrive in whatever way we can.
How we help:
Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia.
How we help: Each year, we send teams of youth and adult volunteers to help make homes warmer, safer and drier for families in need.
Ecumenical Community Helping Others (ECHO) is an organization in the Springfield and Burke community that assists people in need, both those who suffer the effects of long-term poverty as well as those who are experiencing an emergency financial need.
How we help:
Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is an organization that collects and delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to children throughout the world. OCC uses these gifts to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need.

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church. They minister to persons in need through programs on Humanitarian Relief / Disaster Response, Sustainable Development and Global Health.
How we help: We provide financial support as well as donate Relief Kits filled with needed supplies.
Blood Drives
How we help: Drives are held in partnership with Springfield Christian Church throughout the year with Inova Blood Donor Services.
In addition to these ongoing mission opportunities, we also offer short-term mission projects that provide as-needed support to a variety of organizations including Capital Area Food Bank, Salvation Army, Society of St. Andrews, WorldVision and Rise Above Hunger.

Free the Girls helps women rescued from sex trafficking reintegrate into their communities. Currently operating in El Salvador, Mozambique, and Uganda, the women in these countries take perfectly good donated bras from around the world and sell them to make a safe, sustainable income.
